Family Update & Special Olympics Scarf Project Announcement

Posted on the 29 April 2011 by Joysautismblog @joysautismblog

It’s been a good and very busy couple of days for me. Adrian has not had any issues at school that I know of although I haven’t talked to his teacher this week yet, if he has timeouts though they have to send me notes about it so there must not have been anything bad enough for a time out!

Nevaeh is doing good. I had a meeting with her teacher today and her teachers really love Nevaeh. She’s just a good kid. I signed off on a paper for her to see the OT. Nevaeh has some problems with fine motor skills. She fist grips her pencil and she has trouble holding her thumb and pointer finger to “frame a word” which is basically kind of pinch of the two fingers but not pinched together all the way if that makes sense. Tomorrow I am going on a field trip with Nevaeh’s class to the airport. Nevaeh is excited to ride on the bus more then the actual trip!

Lincoln is doing really well at his speech that he’s been going to twice a week. Our coordinator met us at the school today and we talked about when we are doing more evaluations and the IEP meeting for next year. It sounds like we’re doing that in June….so we’re looking at more evaluations and IEP in early June and follow up hearing test in late June. There is a “transition” class for children who are starting special needs preschool that will run in June and July and it’s an hour long twice a week so if we can get that to jive with our schedule that is totally something we’re interested in.

There is some news that came out today that I am so so excited about, the colors of….The Special Olympics Scarf Project 2012!! I can’t wait to get started!! If you crochet or knit can you help make scarves for these athletes? I will be sharing all my scarves and projects. I just can’t wait to get started….I will be picking up my yarn tomorrow now that the colors have been announced!! I’m over exclamation marking because I’m to excited about this!!! Woo HOO! Ok, I’m done…

The last thing I was going to mention was that Lincoln’s area education coordinator loaned us a b-calm player today for Adrian to try out. I’ll let you know how it goes. Adrian listened to it for a few minutes today, I think he liked it.

I will be having a guest post tomorrow about Sign Language. I’m really excited to share this so check back tomorrow!
