Famine 30
Last weekend, I was apart of the Famine 30 DIY Camp, USM Engineering Campus. I was one of the committee member for this Famine 30 camp. Click on the link to know more about Famine 30.
I was recruited by YL under Logistics Department. I’ve partnered with him on jobs before and he knows that I like doing stuff that’s why he recruited me. So before the event day, there were only 2 official meetings. I attended the first meeting. For the second meeting I had something up so I couldn’t make it. So during the first meeting, I had a tiny feeling of regret in me for joining this. The meeting was conducted in English and majority of the committee don’t speak English very well. I was quite focused during the whole meeting trying to understand what they are trying to say. On the other hand, no one seems to be listening to the camp leader, A. And she doesn’t seem to be bothered by it or try to do something about it. Yeah so that’s overall how the committee team is.
As for my department, instructions wasn’t given out well. Most of the time I was clueless. Logistics department is in charged of preparing the stuffs and items needed for event day. One of the things they needed was color balls, yeah and since I didn’t know what I could help out, I volunteered to make the color balls. Nearing the event day, I realized that I couldn’t complete it all on my own and sought help from other members of my department and also Activity Department. Yeah I practically didn’t do much, just made colored balls. Scrunching up papers and newspapers were so tiring you cannot imagine. And the amount of tape used for these balls were endless.
So finally the event day arrived. The camp was help in USM Main Hall. I planned to sneak back to my hostel for shower instead of showering at the toilets of the hall so all I brought with me was a sleeping bag (borrowed from WC), a hoodie (WC’s also. Haha), a spare shirt and a bottle of water. I got a lift from one of my members to the main hall, then I just waited till the event starts. So on the first day, there were lots of activities and games. For one of the station games, I manned the station where you gotta pass tissue by blowing it. If you get what I mean. Haha. It was quite fun lah during the activity times. But otherwise, it was quite boring.
Around 8pm, I wanted to go back to my hostel to shower. At the same time, WC and KF going for dinner. WC asked me to join them. So I followed along, but I drank barley water only. I even took out all the barley and give it to WC. Haha. The first Famine 30 that I have joined was in 2007, this one is my second time. Haha. 7 years later. The one I joined this time, soya bean drink is provided from time to time throughout the whole 30 hours. The one I joined in 2007, only water was provided, there was no soya bean drink at all. So this time I was thinking to myself “Haa, got provide soya bean drink some more. What kind of famine is this”. Well they were afraid that some of the campers couldn’t take it so they provided soya bean drink. Or maybe I’m just too old school. Haha. I wanted to fast the way I fasted in 2007 so yeah.
I was suppose to be on patrol duty from 1am – 2am on the first night. I tried my very best to stay awake during that period of time. I was partly awake but still snuggled up on the sleeping bag. Cause I saw that many committees were still awake during that period and to me there wasn’t any need for patrol duty for that period. Sleeping on the floor of the main hall was quite an experience. It wasn’t comfortable, but at least now I can say that I’ve overnight-ed in the main hall before. LOL. So the next morning I woke up around 7am, then continued sleeping on the sofa at the backstage. Haha. I woke up later around 8.30am, brushed teeth and was on time for movie session. Haha. I skipped the morning exercise session. We watched this movie called Les Choristes (The Chorus). It was really interesting and I liked it a lot!
And well the other parts of the second day was quite boring so no need to mention anything about it lah. Haha. Once we break fast, there was a quick post-mortem (because everyone keep saying there was no problem at all. LOL). Then WC picked me and we went to the saloon and cut his bushy hair. And since I saved money on 4 meals, I wanted to treat my tummy to something nice, so we went to Shunka Japanese Restaurant @ Parit Buntar. Only I ate. Haha. Cause it was only about 5pm that time and WC had lunch. Oh and there’s this Matcha Moment promo where you can get the Matcha desserts at only RM 5 if you order a bento! Super good deal. Haha.
After my meal, we went to Billion Supermarket a while for me to get some food supplies. Haha. It was WC’s first time at Billion after 1 year plus here. And according the WC, Billion has a really good selection of stationeries. Once shopping done, WC sent me back and I showered and got ready for Career Fair 2015 meeting. Many thanks to Liang for his car, that WC can take me out. HEHE.
Career Fair 2015 First Meeting
On Sunday (12 Oct) was Career Fair 2015 organizing team’s first meeting. It started of with everyone introducing themselves. During the Career Fair recruitment interviews, the interviewers were acting mean and strict and stern. So during this meeting, JB kept emphasizing that he’s actually very friendly and playful. So krik krik. And then he briefly explained the job scopes of each department and what he wants from the team etc. Similar to last year, there are 5 people in the Publication Department of Career Fair 2015. TTF as head of department, I as old member and another 3 new members – ZA, LJ and GN. Wanna know something funny, actually last year, NG applied too but she didn’t get because the previous Publication Department HOD picked me over her. Okay well maybe it’s not funny lah but I get a bit of a weird feeling in me sometimes. But it’s nothing negative, just a funny feeling kot. Haha.
And then there were 3 October babies in the team. So there was this birthday prank thingy. And well that was it. Oh and they also briefed about the Career Fair 2015 workshop which will be held on the 24-26 October 2014. I guess it’s something similar to last year. Oh well I’m looking forward to work with my department. Even though I feel that the whole team lacks a little from previous year and that they chose maybe 1 or 2 wrong people, I hope things will run smoothly.
