Hi all, and happy Friday! I’m always happy to see a Friday roll around, especially after a hugely busy week! Because of the sheer amount of stuff I’ve had going on {it’s almost all good stuff, but it’s still stuff}, and because of the nice li’l Nor’easter coming our way, the hubby and I are shelving our plans to head into the city this weekend and are just going to hang around locally with friends. Yes, I had big ambitions for MB Fashion Week events, especially the Fashion Plate line-up this weekend, but this will actually be better. My husband and I plan on taking some serious time to relax after our frenetic work weeks {ever since New Year’s, we’ve been running on all cylinders!}. If the snow is still going tomorrow, we’re going to park ourselves in front of the fireplace with some hot cocoa and good books!
This week’s Fashion Friday has me thinking of warmer months ahead, after the storm passes, when we can start shucking some of these layers in favor of less brisk days! The layer is the ultimate in weather transition for fashion. Using it smartly can let you use more of your wardrobe all year instead of buying season-specific wardrobes, and can keep you toasty warm whatever the temperature! Smart and price savvy – what’s not to like? So when it came to assembling some lovely layers, this is the direction my thoughts turned:
Mango dress + Karen Millen knit sweater + Ted Baker black trench coat + Gerbe black shaping tights + Bay & Fyfe Teal & Blue Scarf + Madison Harding wedge ankle booties + Sophie Hulme soft flap bag + Lucky Brand blue earrings
This particular set came as a surprise. I started crafting a layered look, but then the black and teal colorblock dress ambushed me. That color always makes me think of words like “beach” and “Santorini” so I didn’t expect to use it in a cold weather look. I started adding more elements and found it lended itself to a mod-style look, and I just went with it! It’s one of those pieces that can be easily adjusted for cold by adding the black tights and the sweater {which can be worn over the dress or for a lighter sweater, under}, and the jacket can be changed out with a flowing cardigan.
