Fashion Sense

Thanks for the comments on my dad's wedding. I did not attend and I think I'm mentally better off for it. Plus there was an impromptu gathering of old coworkers a few blocks from my place, so I was around friends and happiness at the end of the day. :)
Fashion has never been at the forefront of my concerns, probably because I've always managed to find nice friends regardless of what I wore. The only time I was ever popular was when my stepmom dressed me back in elementary school, after that my fashion and popularity plummeted.
There were contributing factors to this disinterest in clothes: my mom doesn't really care about what she puts on, and before my breast reduction surgery three years ago it was impossible to find tops that flattered my thin figure without making me look like a call girl.
My first memory of realizing I knew nothing about dressing myself was the first day of college. My new roommate had totes and totes of outfits and she pulled out a few pairs of jeans. "Which pair of pants should I wear with this top?" she asked me. I never before really noticed jean washes and therefore didn't know people considered different washes for certain tops!!
Since my body type put me behind the curve on developing my own style I have had to catch up since 21 what my friends started working on at 13. My current coworkers seem to put a lot of pressure on this development.
It doesn't help that most of them are from Russia and are even further ahead of us department store shopping Americans. But if you are going to point out that I have only four pairs of work pants in my wardrobe, at least provide suggestions on what I should add. Black, brown, grey, and khaki seem to cover all I need.
The topic of the week is what I'm wearing to the holiday party tonight. Some people seem genuinely interested to see if I have more than 5 outfits in my closet. It caused quite a stir when I pulled out an older sweaterdress last week. "Did you actually go shopping???"
So here it is, and I'm sure my coworkers will be disappointed that I really only have three pairs of shoes, but these boots are awesome. And at least I haven't worn this dress since July!
