My violets are growing, and to aid their growth, I’ve continued to chase down my new year’s resolutions. The greatest of which is chasing down the things I’m afraid of, or the things that I find painful, whether it’s cleaning my bedroom or balancing my check book.
Balancing a check book is easily one of the singular most depressing thing I do on a weekly basis. In all reality, it may be more of a bi-weekly basis, I truly loathe this one aspect of adult life, aside from paying bills.
I push off the check book balancing because of my bitter feelings, but now I embrace it. I use my favorite pen, everyone has one of those. Whether it’s the color, the smoothness, or just the feel of the pen. I have changed it, and I use my favorite pen when I balance my check book. I’m convinced it makes my handwriting look more old fashioned, and for some reason, I truly enjoy that.
Find that task that makes you run and see what aspect can be tweaked, so stop avoiding that check book writing, or if you’re anything like Hannah from “GIRLS” — learn how to write a check the right way. The only way to get better is to practice. Practice the art of running towards what you’re afraid of, or whatever your weakness may be.
