Fly on by Friday – Gestational Diabetes

Posted on the 21 November 2013 by Meltingmoments

As much as I’d hoped to avoid being diagnosed with gestational diabetes this pregnancy, I received the call on Monday to tell me I had developed it… again. I know a lot of developing it has to do with family history, but I can’t help but feel a pang of guilt about not shedding a few extra kilos after Dora came along.

I met with the Diabetes Educator and Dietician yesterday who reassuringly blamed my genes and not by biscuit cravings for my diagnoses. This made me feel a little better.

The dietician talked about food portions and sugars. She also gave me the web address of this fantastic resource: GestationalDiabetesRecipes.com

The recipes are low carb/sugar and safe for pregnancy. Written by mum, Lisa Taylor (and partnering with Natasha Leader, an Australian Accredited Practising Dietitian) after she was diagnosed with GD, she created the website to help and support mothers with their diets throughout pregnancy. Even if you don’t have GD, there’s some great low carb/sugar and pregnancy friendly recipes to be found there.

I am so thankful to have been told about this resource as I found that there was such limited information and recipes for GD when I had it with my first pregnancy.

I managed to control my blood sugar levels very well with Dora so I am confident I can do the same with this little chicken. Dora was born an average weight and her sugar levels were normal.
