Forget Me Not.
Happy Monday, everyone!
I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and for those of you who finished NaNoWriMo, hopefully you took the weekend off and have had at least a little bit of time for your brain to recover.
As for me, I'm taking the month of December off and then will spend January doing some more research for parts of the novel that I realized I needed more information on before I can really solidify the novel. And then in Feburary, the writing shall begin again. And it'll finish when...whenever I finish.
So what's this book?
The working title on this book is Forget Me Not. It's possible that I could change the title, but I like it for now.
So what's it about?
The book follows the story of a little girl who loses her parents at the age of four and, as a result, is raised by her grandparents. Then, at the age of 16, her grandmother is diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Over the next few years, as her grandmother's condition worsens, she is forced to make difficult decisions that will affect her life, her grandmother's, and others she loves.
So where'd I get the idea?

My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when I was a kid. To be perfectly honest, I don't remember exactly when, but I know that by the time I was in my early years of high school, my grandparents were having to move out of their house in the mountains in Montana because they had to move to an assisted care facility for my grandmother's help.
I was never particularly close to my grandmother because my grandparents never lived close to us so I never really had the opportunity. And, on top of that, because she contracted Alzheimer's in my elementary school years, and as a result, cultivating any kind of relationship with her was difficult. But it was really hard to watch my dad slowly lose his mother. Every time he came back from visiting, I could tell it was harder and harder. But I never really knew what it would be like to lose someone that close in that way.
The Alzheimer's thing has been written about a lot, but it's usually from the couple perspective and is about how strong the couple's love is. Because Alzheimer's has been such a big part of my family's life, I wanted to explore the topic more, but, as I said, from a different angle.
So that's the gist of it. And hopefully, sometime within the next few years, you'll see it on a bookshelf near you.
Have a wonderful Monday, all!
