Friday Fives: Top Teething Lifesavers!

Posted on the 27 September 2013 by Sparklesandstretchmarks @raine_fairy
Ever since entered the dreaded world of teething at around 4 and a half months old, we have been trying all kinds of different things to try to help bring him some relief. Some things have worked very well and others haven't worked for us at all, so I thought I'd share with you our own personal list of the best products we have found for teething babies.  1. Amber Anklets Friday Fives: Top Teething Lifesavers! I had heard quite a lot about the use of amber to help with teething pain in babies, but had never really looked into it personally before. I have to admit, I thought it all sounded a bit "Hippy dippy" and not for me. But when you see your little baby screaming in pain, suddenly you are willing to try pretty much anything that may possibly bring them a bit of relief! And so I looked into amber in more detail. I discovered that Baltic Amber is the only type of amber you should use for healing.  It contains a higher percentage (8%) of succinite than amber from any other area.
Succinite acts as an anti-inflammatory and an analgesic.  When worn directly against the skin, succinate will help to reduce inflammation, clear red cheeks, ease pain, and stimulate the thyroid to reduce drooling.I was very kindly sent an amber anklet to try on Tyne from AmberAnklets.com - at first I struggled a little to get him to keep it on as his ankles are quite skinny, but I started to put it on underneath his socks and found this really helped.  Tyne certainly appears to much calmer since I have been using the anklet, and although I can't say 100% that the anklet is to thank for this as I can't be sure wether or not he would have been in pain without it or if it is coincidence - I'm confident enough to continue using the anklet rather than risk removing it only to find the pain returns! The lovely people at Amber Anklets offer a 10% discount to new customers using the new10 at the checkout.  And what's more they are very kindly giving TWO lucky Sparkles & Stretchmarks readers the chance to win one! Cheeky Chompers Neckerchew Bibs Friday Fives: Top Teething Lifesavers!  As soon as I saw this bib, I was floored by what a simple but fantastic idea it was! It is basically a reversible dribble bib with a chewable piece at the bottom for babies to chomp away on to their hearts content! Because it's reversible it goes with many outfits, and because the chomper is attached to the bib there is no losing it, baby is able to keep hold of it and use it by themselves, and there is no worry about teethers dropping on dirty floors and needing to be sterilised! Ideal!!! I absolutely love the little poem that came in the package, so I have to share that too: Dear Baby, “Here’s a chewy dribble bib made with love for you to help catch all your dribble when your toothy pegs break through A must have in your wardrobe cool and stylish either way… and the special squidgy end bit helps soothe the pain away!”  Isn't that sweet?! Tyne LOVES his, and always seems to be disappointed when he tries to chew on his "Normal" bibs only to realize that the chewy squidgy piece isn't there! The Neckerchews are available in a variety of colours, and cost just £9.99 - available from www.cheekychompers.com 3. Teething Necklaces Friday Fives: Top Teething Lifesavers! As every parent knows, necklaces and babies are NOT a good mix. I have missed being able to accessorize my outfits with trendy necklaces since being a mummy, so I was thrilled when I was asked to try out a teething necklace from Babyologie. The funky, brightly coloured necklaces are eye catching and there are a number of designs available to suit all tastes and complement all outfits. The beads on the necklace are non-toxic and entirely safe for baby to chew on - meaning you get to look great, while baby gets to have a good gnaw on your necklace to soothe away the teething pains!  I have found the necklace to be so handy when we're out and about and I don't have a teether to hand. The teething necklaces can be found at www.babyologie.co.uk with prices starting at £23.00 4. Bickiepegs Friday Fives: Top Teething Lifesavers!  These all natural teething biscuits have been around since 1925 and have even been known to be used in Royal Nurseries for generations. Not only do they ease the pain of teething, but they were actually developed by a paediatrician to provide correct exercise vital to the development of babies teeth and jaw, and to help develop their chewing skills. Its easy to see why as they are so handy to give to baby to chew on to help bring some relief, I always make sure we have some in the cupboard and because the packs are so lightweight and small I make sure I always have one in my handbag too! Recommended for use from 6 months, and suitable for vegans and vegetarians - Bickiepegs are available from Asda, Boots and all leading chemists.  5. Gummee Glove

Friday Fives: Top Teething Lifesavers!

I'd read loads of reviews on the Gummee Glove over the past few months, and so recently decided to take the plunge and order one for Tyne.
When it arrived I was a bit concerned that it may not fit comfortably as the pocket for you to insert the babies hand was quite small, but it turned out that it fitted him pretty well.
The glove is machine washable, and it has soft teething attachments all over it for baby to chew on - it also has a teething ring tucked into a little pocket which you can remove if you want but is very handy to keep there if your baby is perhaps too young to properly grasp and guide things to their mouth yet.
I think the Gummee Glove is a great idea and Tyne seems to like it!
Available from www.gummeeglove.co.uk for £10.99
