Friday Style: Everyday Me

Posted on the 30 August 2013 by Kcsaling009 @kcsaling

Hello, friends, and happy Friday! It might sound silly, but one of the reasons I’m glad to be working again is that the weekends have a lot more meaning for me. When we were traveling and working on the house, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were just continuations in the weekly process – sometimes frustrating ones, because it was really hard to get actual living people and not robots on the phone when we needed help with something. Now they’re days to be treasured again, to spend soaking in the wonder that is Hawaii.

I actually have today off, and I’m turning cartwheels over it! It’s a day to do things both glamorous and unglamorous – things like register the car and bikes with the DMV, ship a broken suitcase off for repairs {that Air Canada is very kindly paying for – I’m still amazed that they were able to break my indestructible suitcase!}, run errands, get a pedicure, and catch up with some friends in town. For today’s Friday Style, I’m looking for a kind of all-purpose outfit, something I can wear to run errands and head out with friends both, and something that will definitely snap me out of my shorts-and-t-shirt rut around here {although those things are perfectly acceptable for anything here in Hawaii}.

I learned a lot during my last Friday Style {way back when I was taking part in the 7×7 challenge} - while figuring out fun fashion combinations is one thing, figuring out how to actually wear it is another! So here, I’m going to put together a style combination and then see how it actually works out on me. Today I’m using these items {or similar}:

So here’s what the combo actually looks like on me:

It’s not the best picture, but I’m still working on that first cup of coffee – and on cleaning up my kitchen! The kitchen is the one place where I’m a total neat freak usually, but that doesn’t mean the dishes don’t pile up in the sink from time to time! Anyway, this is your impromptu tour of my kitchen as well, complete with all the staples including wine-holding whale from Alaska and tiki god from a trip to American Samoa ages ago. But back to the fashion!

Sometimes these fashion challenges are humbling for me {it doesn’t help that I’m coming off of a looooooong vacation and that I’ve definitely been eating like I’ve been on vacation}, but at the same time, I’m learning more and more about the fashion ideas that actually work for me. I’m not a 6-foot skinny model, so I shouldn’t be trying to wear things that are meant for 6-foot skinny models. I’m a 5’8″ sometimes-power-lifter sometimes-CrossFitter who runs when she remembers to. But still, I do like trying to translate my ideas into something I’d actually wear!

But that’s okay. I can work with this. There are styles out there that work for me. I just have to find them! There are plenty of inspirations to find over at Alison’s blog {long distance loving}, where I’m linking up once again for Friday’s Fancies!

Here’s hoping everyone has a wonderful weekend!
