Friendship is the Key to Good Health

"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."

We all know how important friendship is but did you know having friends can actually keep you healthy? Well according to an article in Health magazine friendship is great for good health. Good friends discourage unhealthy behaviors such as smoking and heavy drinking. And the companionship provided by friends may ward off depression, boost self-esteem and provide support. Also, as people age, they may become more selective in their choice of friends, so they spend more time with people they like. Below are a few more ways that your friends can keep you healthy.

  1. One of the best kept secrets to good health and a long life? Having a robust social network that includes relatives, friends, and other relationships. These are just a few of the reasons why you should prioritize your family and pals
  2.  In one well-known study, folks with more diverse social connections were less susceptible to colds than those who were socially isolated.
  3.  Being lonely leads to restless sleep, a University of Chicago study suggests: The lonelier you are, the more you toss and turn.
  4.  Having strong social support may cut your risk of cognitive decline, according to several studies.
  5.  People with stronger social connections were 50% more likely to live longer than those with weaker connections, a 2010 analysis found. That makes the impact of friendlessness comparable to that of smoking.

So now that you know by being a friend you can save a life and someone can save yours, you should keep your friends close and you best friends even closer!
