As a Mum of two lego obsessed little boys and a wife to an equally Lego-obsessed Husband, I am always looking for the best way to store the Lego in our house and I think I have finally found my favorite way which I am going to share with you today!
I am also going to share some of the fun things that we've been doing with Lego lately with the boys. What we love about Lego is that the possibilities of play and creating are completely endless. It's the toy that never gets old (as is demonstrated by Husband who still builds Lego sets at nearly 32).

The perfect Lego storage

I mentioned that we had found a new Lego storage idea, that has since become my favourite, and for this, we are using the Trofast system from IKEA. The Trofast toy storage solutions have always stood out to me for an ideal storage solution for Lego, but I never really thought we had the room for one. However, recently I realised that the Trofast storage comes in so many different shapes and sizes and so by removing a shelf that we had next to Ethan's bed (which he usually places his reading books, a cup of water and other bedtime bits on), we've made room for the taller Trofast unit with the top of the unit acting as a new shelf for him and the removable boxes being absolutely perfect for all of his Lego.
The boxes are really deep and hold a lot of Lego. We actually went for two smaller boxes for the top, with the top one for storing some of the things he likes to have near his bed at bedtime like colouring books and notebooks and the second one down if for smaller Lego parts and Minifigures to separate them from the bigger Lego bricks.

The unit works perfectly for Lego storage and I love that the boys can pull out the boxes to sit and play on the floor and then put them back when they are finished.

Lego Minifigure display frame

I created this Lego Minifigure display frame really easily using an IKEA Ribba frame which was just £4. I then used blu tac to stick a base plate to the inside of the frame (you could use glue if you want to, but we used blu tac so that we can use the base plate if we want to). To attach the Minifigures we've just used little lego bricks that attach the base plate but also attach to the Minifigures at the top. It took me less than five minutes to make, but I think it makes for a really nice Lego Minifigure display and a really nice looking lego decor piece too. What I also like is that we can change the Minifigures up that are in the frame as often as we like to!

Lego personalised name decor

To add to the lego decor touches in Ethan's room we made these letters to spell out his name with Lego bricks that we already had at home and I absolutely love it! You don't need to do the letters all in one color you can make the bricks up the brick colours like we have here for the T and the A. Ethan already had some lego dinosaurs in his lego tubs and I think adding them around his name like we have here makes for such a nice way to display them.

DIY Lego photo frame

To create our DIY lego frame I picked up a set of 2 plain white frames from Poundland for £1 (so 50p each) and I also picked up a glue gun and glue refills for £1 each. And then I simply used the glue gun to attach some colourful bricks that we already had at home in the boys' lego boxes to the frame. It was simple and inexpensive to do and whilst they aren't perfect I really do absolutely love how our DIY Lego photo frames have turned out, we just need to add a photo now!
storing lego manuals, lego instruction booklets, lego ideas, lego decor, lego diy, lego storage, lego name, lego letters, lego minifigure display, lego display ideas,
Another idea I had was to find a storage solution for all of the boys' Lego manuals/instruction booklets. I was initially going to use a ring binder and plastic wallets but we had too many and it was going to be too heavy for the wallets so instead I am using an IKEA plastic tub and then I simply attached a free Lego printable that I found online to it in a plastic wallet to keep it protected. You can find the free printable here if you are looking to do something similar: free lego manuals printable.

Lego hand soap dispenser

And the other thing that we have done is such a simple idea, but we've added a few lego bricks to our hand soap dispenser to make handwashing a little bit more fun and of course, encourage the boys' to ensure that they are washing their hands often!
I hope you've enjoyed reading this and that it's given you some fun Lego inspiration!
Thank you for reading.   Alex xo
