Today's Topic: Funny Moments From Our First Year Of Marriage
This is a great topic to start off with. When Ryan and I got married, I felt like a lot of people tried to "warn" us that the first year of marriage can be so hard. Ryan and I have talked about this, and we think it couldn't have been farther from the truth for us. We did have a few bumps or disagreements, but I would say 95% of our first year was spent falling more in love and being extremely silly. Ryan and I work so well together because we make each other laugh and can entertain ourselves for hours. This clearly has led to a ton of funny moments over the last 365 days.

Lets start off with purchasing our precious dog, Marcy. We bought Marcy, even before we were married. She was born on May 8th and we got married on June 9th. We weren't able to pick her up until right before the 4th of July. She was born in Phoenix, so after we moved to Sierra Vista, we drove up one day to pick her up. When we got to the breeders, they quickly brought her out to us so we could see her. I noticed that the white flash on her nose was gone, but they said as a puppy they grow and sometimes this happens. We left briefly to go pick up cash, since they wouldn't take a check. When we got to the car, Ryan asked "Did Marcy have a penis?!?" I told him I hadn't seen that and that even girls have a little nub at the back. Plus, these were boxer breeders, there was no way they were going to give us a boy instead of a girl. We returned with the money, took a picture with Marcy, and headed home. About an hour away from our house (we had already driven 2 and a half), we stopped at Petco to get some things. Everyone was ooing and ahhing over Marcy. We headed back out to the car and all of a suddenthe real marcy
a Petco employee came running out after us. "Everyone inside said that you kept calling your dog a girl - this is DEFINITELY a boy!" She took "Marcy" from us and pointed out the little penis that Ryan HAD seen earlier. I could not believe this was happening. I had just trusted the breeder and taken Marcy's brother without looking or asking any questions. All of a sudden I started crying. Did the breeders try to screw us over? The girl boxers were much more expensive than the boy ones...Ryan started calling the breeders and finally got ahold of them. They sounded apologetic and told us they would have Marcy waiting for us if we went back...so we drove the 2.5 hours back to get our real Marcy and ran away from those shady breeders as fast as we could. We drove 12 hours total to get our Marcy...we were not in very good moods that day...looking back it is a really funny story that Ryan never wants to tell, because somehow we didn't realize we took a boy dog instead of a girl....Ryan is just one of the funniest people I have ever met. You may remember him proving a lovely point back around Christmas time: I completely zone out when I am blogging....Take a look:
He also was completely devastated by taking the "How Well Do You Know Your Spouse" quiz that I forced up on him for the blog around Valentine's Day:
Let's not forget Ryan's frequent, strange interactions with Marcy...I came out of the bathroom one night and snapped this picture...Ryan was saying, "And when you turn 2, you will be a teenager...we will have to buy you your first training bra..."
I think that being married to someone who can make you laugh and who you can laugh with in hard situations, is so important for a happy and healthy marriage. If you are always getting bent out of shape about things or are always so serious, I feel it can only add to tough things you are going through. We truly have had so many funny moments over the last year and I can't wait to have more in the years to come!
