Just over a week ago, I was singing the praises of Microsoft’s demonstration of good sportsmanship in the technology game (…Play Nice).
Unfortunately, that warm and fuzzy feeling didn’t last long. Last week, Microsoft launched its new line of Scroogled merchandise.
For those who aren’t familiar with the term, Scroogled comes from the “Don’t Get Scroogled” site (by Microsoft). So basically, it’s an insult created by the anti-Google crowd.
The site highlights how Google sells its shopping results, while Microsoft’s Bing search engine has a more “honest” policy. Although, I’m not sure how well the “honest” card plays when you dedicate an entire site and merchandise line to trash-talking your competition.
Regardless of its moral and ethical ambiguity, Microsoft fans (or Google haters) can now own their own coffee mugs, T-shirts, and other assorted items plastered with mean-spirited, anti-Google messages. And it’s just in time for the holidays, because nothing says happy holidays like a “Keep Calm While We Steal Your Data” mug.
