Without a doubt, “Zero Dark Thirty,” is one of this award season’s most controversial films.
It’s depiction of torture has garnered it some heat from movie goers and even Washington.
I’ll save our review for later (really liked this one), but I would like to weigh in on the torture issue.
First of all, I do not like torture, and I do not think it should be used ever. Now that that’s out of the way, it is a shame that so many seem fixated on this instead of the part it plays in telling this amazing story.
How cool is it that a woman was at the center of the operation that both found and took down Osama Bin Laden? Answer: it’s pretty freaking awesome!
Yet, for every comment about women and their rise in the CIA, there’s 20 or more comments on the depiction of torture.
There’s even talk of a pending Senate investigation of the film. You can’t help but think of McCarthyism. It’s scary and enraging.
If filmmakers have to deal with the threat of investigation, then what are the men and women of the CIA even protecting?
