Gettin’ Crafty

Ah, Pinterest. Such a glorious time waster, no? I’m pretty sure all who have discovered it will agree that is it is the most wonderful place to find inspiration, hilarity, and to kill some time. (And if you haven’t discovered it, we can’t be friends!)

One of my first pins was this pretty little DIY Christmas ornament, featuring a wedding invitation cut up into strips and made curly and then placed inside a clear ball ornament. Horrible description? Let me show you what I mean:

When I saw it, I knew I had to make one out of one of my own wedding invitations. Of course, I’m one of those people who say, “I HAVE to do/try that!” and don’t ever actually do it. I talk big talk, but don’t walk and kind of walk. (I’m more of a shuffler) In fact, I don’t really “craft” at all, but I figured the prettiness was worth a shot.

Over the past weekend my mom had mentioned that she wanted to stop in at Michael’s because they were having a crazy Christmas decoration sale, so I figured I’d check and see if they had any clear Christmas balls available. Ah, Michael’s never fails! I found a HUGE bin of pretty balls that were even plastic so my accident-prone self couldn’t break it. I even found some scrapbooking paper for cheap to reprint one of my wedding invitations onto. (Apparently I save Word documents regarding my wedding but not any actual invitations. Le sigh) The bonus? The two items cost me less that $4! (Amazing because Michael’s is SOOOO expensive!)

So, yesterday after work I got my materials together and started crafting. No, I didn’t take any photos of the process, because again, NOT CRAFTY, but, I am pretty proud of the end result. It’s not quite the same as the one in the photo above, but I’d say I did a damn good job for my first crafting project!

Not too bad eh? And that’s a little Norfolk pine all decked out for Christmas :) There was a smaller sized ball and I knew I should’ve bought the smaller size, but oh well. I also used the same ribbon that I used to tie our wedding favours up with and put the little blue gemstones from my wedding bouquet inside the ball as well. (You can’t really see them in the photos though).

Here’s a close-up photo:

So there yah go! Not too bad for my first attempt, IMHO. :) Now, questions:

Have you remade anything you’ve discovered on Pinterest? (Crafts, food, or anything like that?)
Would you consider yourself a crafty person?
