Happy Golden Globes Sunday!
It’s officially that time of year again, when you gather around our televisions and wonder why Tina Fey and Amy Poehler don’t host every awards show.
Unfortunately, this is their last year.
Yes, believe it or not, this is they dynamic duo’s third and final year (for now) hosting Hollywood’s biggest party.
While we would love to dwell on that unhappy bit of news, the show must go on, and predictions must be made. So, without further ado, here are our predictions for the 72nd Golden Globe Awards:
Drama
Best Motion Picture
Zer: “The Imitation Game” — So this is a tough one. “Boyhood,” should win, based purely on the fact that it took 12 years to film. That kind of work deserves recognition. However, “The Imitation Game,” is just a well done film about an amazing, true and untold story, and it deserves to win, and probably will.
Stephanie: “Boyhood” — I wouldn’t be surprised at all if “The Imitation Game” or “The Theory of Everything” went home as the big winner, but I think the accomplishment of a film like “Boyhood” is hard to ignore. It’s something completely new, and I think they have a real shot.
Best Television Series
Zer: “Downton Abbey” — This is Downton’s year, I can feel it. None of the other nominees are in their final season, and there are no other clear standouts. “Downton Abbey” has been quietly waiting in the “Series” category for the perfect moment to strike, and this is it (they did win for “Best Mini-Series” early on).
Stephanie: “Downton Abbey” — I agree with Zer on this one. The only challenger I see having a shot is “House of Cards” …and I wouldn’t say no to “Game of Thrones” taking home the trophy either.
Comedy or Musical
Best Motion Picture
Zer: “Birdman” — I’m not sure this one should win. I’m pulling for a surprise victory for “Into the Woods,” but that’s highly unlikely. I also wouldn’t mind if “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” took this one home. However, “Birdman,” has the star-power and critical acclaim that will make it hard to beat.
Stephanie: “The Grand Budapest Hotel”— This was one of my favorite movies this year. It’s just enjoyable, and weird, and beautiful. Yes, “Birdman” will probably win, but I’m sticking by my favorite.
Best Television Series
Zer: “Orange is the New Black” — In its second season, “Orange is the New Black,” continues to be one of the best shows currently being produced. Plus, it has a fabulous ensemble cast of diverse and amazing actresses. While I’m still a little bummed that “Parks and Recreation” wasn’t even nominated this year, Orange both deserves to, and will win this category.
Stephanie: “Orange is the New Black” — This is an interesting category this year with lots of recent regulars missing. If “Girls” wins I’ll be disappointed, but not shocked. Still, I stand by “OITNB” being the most deserving of the honor.
Miscellaneous
Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Zer: “True Detective” — I have to admit, I have not seen any of the series that were nominated this year. So, my prediction is based purely on the opinions of others. Also, I wouldn’t be shocked if “The Normal Heart,” took this prize.
Stephanie: “Fargo” — I admit, this is a wild card choice, but having started watching “True Detective” and just not being pulled in the same way I was by “Fargo” (I know it’s not a popular opinion), I have to go with FX’s new mini-series over HBO.
Best Animated Feature Film
Zer: “The Boxtrolls” — There’s a really good chance that “The Lego Movie,” or even “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” could win this category. Both were good films, but “The Boxtrolls” boasts the most original story out of this group, and stands out from the pack, both in storytelling and style.
Stephanie: “The Boxtrolls” — After the year of “Frozen” this year’s pool is a much tighter race, but I have to go with Laika on this one. It’s not just great animation, or a good kids movie, it’s a great movie, period.
