Today’s two grammar tips:
- An unexpected event happens “all of a sudden,” not “all of the sudden.”
- The word “adverse” means “unfavorable,” “contrary” or “hostile,” as in “adverse circumstances.” Think of it as having the same root as “adversary,” someone or something that gives you a rough time. “Averse,” on the other hand, means “unwilling, “disinclined” or “wanting to avoid.” A risk-averse investor is one who stays away from high-risk stocks.
