Great Weekend

I don’t know about you but I had a great weekend enjoying the sunshine, 70 degree weather, St. Patty’s Day and my sisters bday!

On Saturday, I dressed up in my green, skied a little bit and then sat outside on the sun deck at Okemo Mountain and soaked up the sun and sipped on Guinness.

I have a couple really Irish friends and they taught me so much about Guinness Beer. Did you know:

  1. Guinness is actually a lower calorie beer.  The bottle of Guinness I drank had 125 calories per bottle. (A Budlight bottle has about 110 calories). A pint of the good stuff contains only 198 calories.
  2. Pouring a glass or pint of Guinness is a skill. A “perfect pour” should take 199.50 seconds. This is the result of pour at an angle of 45 degrees followed by a rest. This is crucial. Most Irish people would cringe if they saw anyone pour it any other way. After a pause, long enough so what’s in the glass is a perfect black, the rest of the glass is filled, again at a 45 degree angle. What is handed across the bar should have a creamy head and should be served at exactly 42.8F. [source]
  3. There is a small ball in a Guinness can or bottle called a widget. The purpose of the widget is to release CO2 from some of the beer in the can to create the head. It is meant to mimic the texture and head of Guinness on tap. I found this one fascinating!

On Sunday, I woke up a little graugy but had to get up and to the moutain for another day of skiing. On the way home, Vinnie and I stopped at the VT Country Store because I love it there!! I found some awesome chocolate treats I want to try and make at home. Chocolate covered potato chips and graham crackers… yes please!!!

I was determeined to get a workout in because I was feeling so crappy from a lot of eating and drinking on St. Patty’s Day so I made Vinnie drop me off 5 miles from our place and I ran home. I went from skiing on snow, to running in this outfit!! I didn’t have my running socks so I had ot wear my wool ski socks! My feet were hot.

It was a good run, and took me about 45 minutes. I was super sweaty at the end but very happy to get some exercise in.

We ended the weekend with a birthday celebration my now old, youngest sister. She hit the big 18 yesterday.

How was your weekend?

I am excited for a week full of 70 degree weather. I guess we really won’t have a winter in New England this year.
