Grow Write Guild #4

So this time our garden writing prompt was to write about a gardening mentor we've had. In truth, I've never really had a garden mentor. At least, I've never had someone who's seen my interest in it and taken me under their wing to teach me a few things.
But I do get a lot of inspiration from all over the place. I watch P. Allen Smith whenever I can catch his show and I subscribe to Country Gardens magazine and a couple of other ones as well. I thought that today I would just share a couple of images of gardens that have inspired me the most. Also, if you follow my boards on Pinterest you can see more of the garden images that inspire me.

I like gardens that have some visual interest. Raised beds, terraces, and variety rather than a long span of land on the same plane. I like to come around corners in the garden and be surprised by what a find there. I don't want to be able to see it all by standing at one end and looking out across. I want hidden little gems as I make my way across the space.

A place to sit and admire the garden or enjoy a good book is a must.

I'm also a big fan of hardscape, particularly paths made of stone that add visual interest and lead me to fun corners of the garden.

And I love structures like pergolas, gates, or fences. I particularly like pergolas that are attached to the house and define outdoor spaces for entertaining.
So those are the things I love to see in gardens and just a few of the images that inspire me.
