Everyone has a certain amount of natural beauty – we just have to work out how to make the most of what we’ve got. This is easier said than done, though. What’s your best feature? Is it more effective to enhance that or focus on improving other areas?
Below are five hassle-free ways to maximise your natural beauty regardless of weather, temperature or bad fashion choices.
Banish your glasses
Even though glasses are getting pretty fashionable these days, with the likes of Cara Delevingne and Miranda Kerr sporting frames instead of contacts while out and about, there’s still a bit of a stigma attached to them – after all, how well is your new top going to bring out your eyes if they’re hidden behind a pair of glasses? They make it difficult to wear mascara and eyeliner, and contacts aren’t an ideal solution if your eyes are easily irritated. If you can’t hack the idea of wearing contacts and glasses just won’t do anymore, consider solving your poor eyesight problems with a simple laser eye surgery procedure, designed to be extremely precise in scope and practically risk-free in terms of any wider impact on your eyesight. You’ll be binning those clunky plastic frames in no time!
Drink lots of water
The amount of people who still fail to take heed of this well-proven beauty tip is staggering. We’ve known for years that our skin contains a lot of water which helps keep it hydrated and prevents it from drying out. If skin does dry out, the protective barrier it provides can easily be lost, making you more susceptible to acne, eczema and psoriasis. You can do so much for your skin (especially during winter) by drinking around eight litres of water every day. This will keep your skin hydrated and contribute to a glowing complexion all week, even on the morning after the night before! Make sure you spread your water consumption throughout the day, rather than trying to drink eight litres at once – the more spread out it is, the more water will be stored rather than expelled.
Eat apples for a brighter smile
If you ever find yourself going tight-lipped when a friend gets the camera out, you’re not alone – lots of people wish they had a whiter, more attractive smile in keeping with the perfection they see on TV and cinema screens every day. There are a whole host of tips and tricks that can help you prevent plaque from gaining a foothold in your mouth, but it all starts with your diet. Certain foods, like cheese and salmon (not necessarily together), can help build enamel and fight decay. The rough texture of apples and similar foods, though, has a scrubbing effect on teeth and gums, helping to minimise the amount of plaque you pick up. In addition, natural malic acid found in apples can help slightly lighten tooth colour, absorbing surface stains.
Don’t wash your hair every day
Everyone’s hair is different, but the vast majority do not need to wash theirs every day. Washing too often with hot water can strip hair of its natural oils, which help protect our follicles and scalps, and can make it more difficult to achieve that high-shine glossy look we see in magazine and TV adverts all the time. With that in mind, try not washing your hair for a day – it won’t go overly greasy or oily, and using a high-gloss product that features a natural oil or protein like argan or keratin will give it that much-craved shine.
Use a spoon for the perfect eyebrow shape
When reviewing your eyebrows ahead of a big night out, you might decide that they need reshaping a little. Shape is everything, especially if your brows are quite dark – it’ll be obvious if you get them wrong! Try using the back of a spoon, which mirrors the arch of your eye socket, to shape your eyebrows properly. Lightly trace around it with an eyebrow pencil so you’ve got a marker, then you can start filling in and tweezing strays wherever required.
There are hundreds of tips like these out there to keep you looking your best, whether you’re in the office, out on the town or chilling at home with friends. Find the ones that work for you and help to accentuate your best features and remember, one of the keys to outside beauty is inner contentment, so don’t stress about improving areas that don’t need it.
