Happy 3rd Birthday! - A Letter to Ben

To Ben,
Today is your birthday, you are a whole three years old which I find hard to believe. It seems like yesterday that you were a tiny little baby I could carry around easily in one arm. Over the past three years you have grown into a strong, tall little boy bursting with personality and full of fun that your Daddy and I are so very proud of.
Not a day goes by when you don't talk about volcanoes and "hot bubby lava" in the dramatic way you do. You love dinosaurs, dragons, space and planets, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, diggers, dumpers and cranes, building with Lego duplo and of course playing with apps. When we go to the park you love to run about and play hide and seek in the "spooky forest". You are now tall enough to open the doors and we have to be careful you don't sneak out when we are not looking as you love playing outside, especially with your sand which you could happily spend all day shoveling and digging in.
You have an amazing sense of direction and memory (which you definitely don't get from me). You can recognize places such as Hyde Park and Regents Park when we are driving towards them and park up. You often pretend that you have a map and point at your hand referring to the things we need to pass to get to our destination, funnily enough there always seems to be a volcano errupting along the way. You often call me and your Daddy "best friend Mummy" and "best friend Daddy" which melts my heart and Coco is referred to as your "little baby Coco". Coco adores you even though at times you treat her like a cuddly toy which for such a small dog can be a bit rough, nevertheless she follows you around and this morning I found her asleep on top of your bed which you were very pleased to discover.
This year we had a major milestone in that you finally gave up breastfeeding which was a tough time for both of us but you were a little star and accepted it eventually and now give me more hugs and cuddles than ever before which is so very lovely. Your sleeping for the most part has also gotten a lot better and you sleep through the night in your own bed at last. You have definitely grown to love your bed, snuggling down under your blue covers calling it your blue cave".
You are a very social little boy and love talking to others and playing once you get over the initial meeting. This year is the last year we have together before you start preschool which, if I'm honest I am dreading as I will miss spending all day with you so I plan on making the most of it and enjoying every minute.
I hope you have a lovely birthday little man and enjoy playing with all your new toys. I love how excited you got when you walked into the lounge and discovered all your presents and the way that you have spent most of the morning singing "Happy birthday to me", it is very cute. Your Daddy and I love you with all our hearts, thank you for being such a wonderful son.
Big hugs and kisses,
Mummy xxx
