Happy Birthday Hollyoaks!

A lot of television shows seem to be celebrating birthdays recently, with the likes of Coronation Street and EastEnders even going so far as to produce live shows to mark the occasion, but when we say happy birthday to Hollyoaks this week it might not involve a live episode but it will almost certainly involve some kind of intense drama!
The show, set in the fictional village in Chester, celebrates its 20th birthday on Friday 23rd October, and their “killer week”, as it has been billed, will reach its conclusion on the big day.
It’s hard to believe that Hollyoaks has been on our screens for such a long time, (especially when the characters seem to be younger than 35), but it is true. The very first episode aired on 23rd October 1995 and Tony Hutchinson, who is still a key member of the cast today with his on-off relationship with Diane and incredibly popular restaurant, has been in the show since that momentous day.
I won’t spoil what has happened already in the birthday week, but Tony has already been a major part of the celebrations by hosting Hollyoaks Pride which came with its own dramas, and the on-going feud between the Roscoes and Trevor Royle shows no signs of ending anytime soon, especially now Trevor knows that Robbie has been working with the police to put him behind bars!
Of course, the McQueens are also at center stage in the celebrations with Mercedes starting (another) new relationship, this time with Joe Roscoe but I think they’re a great couple personally with Mercy one of the most popular characters on the show, alongside her sister Theresa.
This is shown in this great birthday infographic created by Great British Bingo, who have looked at the most dramatic events in the last 20 years of Hollyoaks, and the most popular characters on Twitter, the major talking points over the past decades and more.

Happy birthday Hollyoaks, here’s to many more intense events!!
