While the regulars were having one of the usual conversations in the ‘living room’, Marjorie and her boyfriend entered the smoke lounge and had been enjoying a cigar and drinks at the entrance section for some time, before she shared her happiness with us. Her childhood’s dream to experience The Lion King had just become reality. The young lovers had just attended the Broadway production and wished to continue the celebration which culminates today with her actual birthday.
At the NYC Fine Cigars – a family-run Smoke Lounge on Ninth Avenue’s Hell’s Kitchen – we treasure letting smoke with a few successful individuals who we consider our own. Rolando Morales Matos, principal percussionist and assistant conductor for the Broadway Lion King production since its beginnings, is one of them.”The Lion King” debuted in July of 1997 at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, three months before its Broadway première at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Marjorie was ten. Little did she know then than this day would ever come. Even on Wednesday, as she walked through the door for a cigar, she could not have imagined that this is the room where the man she just saw playing percussion in her beloved musical, comes to smoke his cigars between shows. In fact, that is the chair he often occupies.
To make her day(s) even sweeter, Jerry – cigar host on duty – presented her with the debut CD of Forward, Rolando’s Latin-Jazz group.
