I wish all of you a happy Thanksgiving. Whether you are spending the day with your loved ones or with your thoughts, take a moment to think about all the blessings in your life and give thanks.
While at it, consider using the day to connect with friends, family, and your own soul instead of shopping. By going to stores on Thanksgiving, you are encouraging more retailers to be open today, taking the holiday away from more and more individuals who work in stores. I worked many a year in retail, missing so many special events for sales but luckily never missed a Thanksgiving day. These days, even Thanksgiving is being taken away for the all mighty dollar. Just wait one day, use the power of your wallet, and you will still score fabulous deals.

And Saturday, consider stepping out of the mall and to your neighborhood for Small Business Saturday. Independent book and record stores, clothing and shoe boutiques, even nail salons and restaurants - your local small businesses need your support to stay alive more than ever. Not only will you help your community businesses, but you'll be more likely to find a unique and heart-felt gift for a loved one (or a special little something just for you!).
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
