…have a Bad Feeling About This

We’ve all had our off moments, we misspeak, cross our references and end up sending the sci-fi community of the world into a tailspin. Isn’t it the worst?

Well, proving that he is in fact human and not infallible, during a press conference on Friday President Obama uttered the phrase: Jedi mind meld.

For all of those saying “huh?” right now, congratulations! You are not a dork. You have my utmost sympathies.

For all those laughing at the absurdity/awesomeness of the concept of a “Jedi mind meld,” welcome brothers and sisters in “random references” arms.

After this unimaginable gaffe (except it is imaginable and it is awesome) the White House jumped on damage control, doing their best to own the mixed signals. And I can only imagine that the interns assigned to the Star Wars/Star Trek damage control tweet duty are extremely pleased with their life choices at this very moment.

Any damage control that involves finding the best Star Wars and Star Trek quotes to describe the deficit is the best kind of damage control. Is this the best use of their resources, time, etc.? Of course not. Is it awesome? Of course it is.

Plus, silver-lining: Do you really think the Trekkies and Star Wars fans are usually this aware of political discussions? Perhaps, this is the future you see. Here’s hoping this new-found enthusiasm will live long and prosper.
