…Have A Chance

It’s hard to think about things like global warming (or climate change if you prefer) while some of us have been enjoying unseasonably cool late-summer temperatures, but a UN panel is forcing the issue.

According to the panels report, they’re 95 percent certain that humans are responsible for the dramatic climate change since 1950 (before that, it’s all on the dinosaurs).

That’s up five percent from the last report in 2007, which was 90 percent certain that humankind is to blame.

If that’s not enough to convince you, the report also includes inspiring gems such as increased concentrations of CO2 and other emissions have caused the global temperatures to rise by an average of about 1 degree F since 1950.  If this trend continues, global average sea levels could increase by as much as 3 feet by 2100.

It’s a bit of a downer, but I think we can all take a bit of hope from the fact that “very likely” and “quite possibly” are probably very dominant phrases in the report.

If it helps, don’t think of the glass as 95 percent empty, think of it as 5 percent full…seriously, at the rate the earth’s population is increasing, we’ll be lucky to have any drinking water by 2100.
