One of the more important roles of government is meant to protect the people it serves…whether they like it or not.
The Canadian’ province of Vancouver is stretching the limits of this role with a new ban on an item deemed to be too dangerous for its citizens to handle.
So what is this newfound threat to humanity (or at least the citizens if Vancouver)?
The doorknob.
Yes, starting in March of 2014 all new housing will be required to install lever-style door handles on all doors (and faucets) in lieu of the traditional knob.
Believe it or not, there is a good reason for this semi fly frivolous ban, but I’ll allow all the rebels without causes the length of this sentence to express their outrage.
The reason, of course, is relatively simple. Levers are more efficient, and much less likely to strain or injure your wrist.
Does this need to be determined and enforced by government…well, I’ll leave that to you to decide.
But the point is, it’s not a bad thing, and for all you , Vancouver residents with a nostalgia for door handles of the round variety, good news, your existing knobs are grandfathered in.
