…Have Your Word

Yesterday, Microsoft shocked the mobile app world when they finally released Microsoft Office for iPhones.

Unfortunately this moment peace offering and moment of goodwill between these fierce competitors was short lived.

A few moments later they shocked the world again when the app users realized that the promise of the ability to finally edit and create Word docs, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, is not in fact “free.”

In a questionable move, Microsoft offered the free app, but it only works with a $100 annual subscription to Office 365.

Considering iPhone users have been surviving for years without Office on their phones, it seems like a halfhearted strategy for luring Apple users over to Microsoft products.

Maybe they just think it’s a lost cause, and they might as well make a few hundred bucks off of the few willing to pay. Considering you can get comparable apps for a one time fee of $15-$30, it seems like a poor investment.
