Helping Your Child Transition from Nursery to Big School

Big school is the next step in your child’s growth, and it will be when your child gets to explore new skills and develop on existing ones. It can however be quite a daunting change for a child to handle, and so it’s important to give your child the tools they need to transition successfully to their new surroundings. Here are some ways to help that along that this private nursery in Hampshire recommends.

Get them a nice new set of supplies

From a nice backpack to a new lunchbox and some of their favorite characters on their new stationery - it all helps put a smile on your child’s face. The little things can greatly motivate a child to head on to their new school and it can actually be a talking point for other kids to make conversation with your child. If your child feels safe around particular things, like a cuddly toy, keep it in the car or on the walk to school to help them feel comfortable.

Take them to the school before their first day

Many parents will have the opportunity to go out and visit the school their child will be attending. It’s the perfect time to see what environment your child will be experiencing and how they can benefit from the range of study material out there for them to pick up on. Showing your child the features of the school before settling in will help them familiarise what they’re going to be seeing on a regular basis.

Try out the commute before their first day

The first day could well be their hardest day, which is why it’s really important to let your child get used to their new commute before then. Replicate this journey a few times so that your child isn’t too stressed about where to go on their first day.
