You marry him, even if in secret. Ruma Malhotra falls head over heels and a little more in love with Lakshman Maheshwari, but her parents insist that she marry a rich businessman of their choice. When Ruma's only option is to marry Lakshman in secret, she is left torn between her love for her parents and her passion for Lakshman. Is a secret marriage the solution or will it lead the way to a public disappointment? Lakshman Maheshwari falls in love with Ruma Malhotra the first time he sets his eyes on her in Ranveer's office. Will he agree to marry Ruma in secret even if it means betraying his parents? Psst... Those who have read THE MALHOTRA BRIDE might be happy to reconnect with Sunita & Akshay Malhotra in this one. *MARRIAGES MADE IN INDIA is a five-novella series that revolves around the characters you have met in The Runaway Bridegroom.

My book review

The book is a virtual love fest - between lovers, their families, their relatives and friends.

The hero is perfect-decent, tall, dark, handsome, and rich

The heroine is feisty and adorable.

Maheshwaris dream parents.

The thing I love about Sundari's romances is this: she manages to interconnect all the characters in the entire series . . . making you want to urgently make sure you read every book in the series.

I am always happy to meet these characters again and reminisce about their own romances. I've read some Mills and Boon novels where this has happened, except, when the characters appear again, they seem kind of sedate and not at all like their earlier sparks-flying-in-the-air personas. In Sundari's book, the heroes continue to be heroes in every book they appear in.

Yes, Sundari's books are very much M&B style and she does a great job of the feel-good-ness in her stories. Idealistic, yes. Heart-warming, yes. I like how her characters are human, and there's no contrived and unbelievable situation.

And who doesn't enjoy anticipating happy endings? I definitely do. I read Sundari's book, secure in the knowledge that they'll be fun, easy to finish in one sitting, savoring my coffee, and leave me with a smiling mind all day, for sure.

When I first saw the title, I was curious about the story.

The book begins with a sizzling scene.

The story is about the shy Lakshman Maheshwari of the Maheshwari Family (surely you've read the others in the series?) falling head over heels in love with Ruma Malhotra, niece of Akshay Malhotra (from the book The Malhotra Bride). Ruma is on the verge of being engaged to Bunty, a groom of her parents' choice, and she detests the prospective groom. She is drawn to Lakshman like a magnet and finds herself reciprocating his love. They must now find a way to a/ avoid her engagement with Bunty somehow b/ break the news to their families so they can marry. She feebly tries to talk to her parents, but they won't even hear her out.

What is one to do?

Ruma does the sensible thing by approaching her grandma, who, of course, comes to her rescue. Together they plan a secret wedding at Ranveer and Chanda's place (of the book The Runaway Bridegroom) with a few family members, whose support they can count on, later, while breaking the news to Ruma's folks. The idea is, once they've tied the knot, Ruma's conservative parents can't do anything about it.

In the meantime, Mohan and Meera, the Maheswari parents, worried about the strange behavior of their usually reticent son Lakshman, decide to go talk to their trusted astrologer, who has always been spot on with his readings. This time is no exception, as he calmly informs them Lakshman is already married. While Mohan stays calm, Meera goes into a tizzy over this tumultuous news, unable to believe such a thing may have happened. Mohan reassures her that Lakshman must have a very good reason for doing what he did and suggests they talk to him.

Which is exactly what they do.

While this is going on, Ruma's impending engagement is drawing close. Akshay, Ruma's "chachu" who is in on the secret wedding, decides to investigate Bunty's family and finds that they are not what they project themselves to be. Armed with this knowledge, he's all set to convince Ruma's parents that Bunty is unsuitable and in fact Lakshman is more suitable. Ruma's mother's only criteria is that her daughter should marry into a wealthy family so she can show off to her so-called friends.

How Akshay pulls all this off, how Lakshman's family rallies around with their support, is what the book is all about, with plenty of romance thrown in. Will Ruma and Lakshman finally receive their respective families' blessings?

I highly encourage you to read and find out.

Now, I cannot wait to see what Sundari has in store for the Maheshwari twins, since they're unmarried-and surely their romance is bound to rock the family?
