Every year around this time, I look forward to holiday baking. I love finding new recipes that I can create and share with family and friends. Usually I choose some sort of sweets or dessert, but this year I decided make a savory snack:
Homemade Holiday Cheese Snaps

I headed to Walmart to pick up the handful of supplies I needed. This recipe is great because you really only need 5 ingredients. I quickly found the butter, cheese & flour and headed home to start cooking!

I checked out the Land O' Lakes Holiday Giftgiving Brochure to get inspiration for my holiday treat. You need 2 cups of finely shredded cheddar cheese, 1 cup all purpose flour, 1/2 cup Land O' Lakes butter (softened), 1/2 teaspoon salt, a dash of ground red pepper, and a tablespoon of ice water.

Place all of the ingredients in a food processor and pulse until smooth.

Split the dough into two even balls and slightly flatten. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes. In the meantime, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Roll out your dough, one ball at a time, on a sheet of parchment paper. Get the dough as thin as possible (around 1/8"-1/4"). It will really puff up in the oven.

To make these treats a little more festive, I cut one sheet of dough into holiday shapes with mini cookie cutters. The other sheet of dough was cut into squares. Take a drinking straw and punch a hole in each cracker.
Bake the cheese snaps for 10-12 minutes, or until light golden brown. Watch them carefully, as they can brown very quickly. Once you remove them from the oven, slide the crackers and parchment paper on to the counter to cool.

They turned out so cute and I love that they are a delicious, homemade version of the processed snacks I try to stay away from at the grocery store.

I grabbed some small mason jars and filled them with the cheese snaps. I then connected a little holiday card with some jute.

These are a perfect, giftable treat that can be shared with all of your loved ones this holiday season! I had such a fun time making them, and I can't wait to hand them out this week.
