It's been around 8 weeks since I shared our before photos of our house and garden and since work started on our two storey front side extension, kitchen, driveway and garden and so I thought I'd post a little update about how it's all been going. If you follow my youtube channel then you will probably have seen me sharing updates as it's been going along over there.
So much has changed in the last few weeks - the extension is pretty much finished, with plastering, electrics and the floor in the bedroom upstairs and skirting board just left to do. The kitchen was ripped out whilst we were away in Cornwall last week and work has now begun with that. The garden was dug up and the fence panels were pulled down and replaced with new ones. The driveway has been pulled up and will be being replaced. The bedroom upstairs has pretty much doubled in size and being that it used to be the smallest room in our house we are absolutely thrilled with the space that we've gained. The kitchen and dining space we've gained with the downstairs part of the extension has also made such a difference, we really couldn't be happier with it.
I think when we were planning this, it was hard to really 'see' how much space we were going to gain, it certainly didn't feel like it would be as much as it feels now that it's been done. We're also so pleased to now have a porch where we will have lots of room to put all of our coats and shoes and to have our front door at the front of our house. It's so good to see it all coming together - we can see that although it's a huge mess at the moment, it really is starting to look just like we imagined and had hoped.
After 8 weeks and now living without a kitchen temporarily, it's definitely not been easy, especially since we're having so much done in one go as well as both trying to work from home and having our youngest here during the day as he doesn't yet go to nursery. We're pretty much living upstairs at the moment and we're washing up in the bath. The washing is piled high as I can't do any washing at the moment so we're recylcing our clothes a lot and we're cooking dinner on a camping hob in the office! There's of course dust absolutely everywhere (it really does get everywhere!), but having this done to our home was always something that we wanted to do to give us the space to live here long term as a family and to give the boys both a room that would be perfect in size for them for many more years to come. And so we know that once it's over, the end result will be more than worth the chaos we're living in currently.
Hopefully we're not too far off from the end now. I honestly can't wait to have our house back. I don't think I'll ever take small everyday things like being able to put plates away in a cupboard for granted ever again haha! I'm so excited about being able to make our new space feel homely once it's finished and I can't wait to enjoy the summer in our back garden too. There's so much to look foward to, it's definitly not been the easiest time of our life, but it will be so worth it in the end!
