[original photos all from pinterest]When we moved in March we sort of told ourselves that this house couldn't be our forever home because we would one day out grow it. Since living here, it's become more and more apparent that actually we'd quite like it to be a forever home or if not for forever maybe for at least a lot longer than we'd imagined. The area we live in is, so far, is wonderful and we don't think we'll be able to afford a house with as many bedrooms as we'll need in the type of area that we're in now. We got very lucky with this house and we sort of want to hold on to it.
And so we're saving hard, looking to do quite a bit of work to the house. Right now we're having our front garden done and having extra driveway space put in. We have plans for the back garden, the kitchen, the study, the garage and we're even saving in the hope that we will be able to convert our attic into a large room and possibly an ensuite. But until we've saved up enough, we need to make do with the space that we have now.
It's not going to be ideal but we're planning on having the second baby in with us for the first six months (as you do) and then moving the baby in to share a room with Ethan until we've managed to afford and build another room. We do actually have a three bedroom house at the moment, but my Husband uses the third bedroom as a Lego warehouse (I'm not joking) for his business and this isn't something that we could fit anywhere else in the house - he really does need the whole room.
And so with a plan for the two children to share a room for a few months to a year, I've been spending a lot of time on Pinterest and on the web, trying to find solutions to make the existing space work for them both and us a family. I've come up with a list of my favorite types of storage solutions for the nursery/childrens room some of which I've touched on below..
[x] Baskets, baskets, baskets.. they are amazing for storing clothes, toys, baby essentials and pretty much everything else in! Stackable baskets are even better. I love The Basket Company for a great choice of different styles and colours.
[x] Sliding wardbobes.. these are so much better (space-wise) than wardrobes with doors that open outwards.. I love Urban Wardrobes for these.
[x] Wardrobe interior fittings and accessories.. It's amazing how much you can fit into a wardrobe these days whilst still being totally organised. I love the choice of accessories offered by IKEA.
[x] Storage drawer under the cot.. I don't currently have one of these in Ethan's room and I'm not quite sure which would be the best place to get one, but I've seen them around and think it would be a good way of freeing up space.
[x] Wall or back of door organisers.. I haven't quite decided on these 100%, but they certainly do free up a bit more space. These are what I mean as an example.
[x] Think tall, not wide.. I am going to try and remember to use the height of the room instead of the width, which will be limited. I'm thinking stackable cubes with storage baskets inside and tall white bookcases. It will be harder with two beds in there - a cot and a cot bed, but I think I can make it work.
