Hong Kong | 5 Things to Experience When in Hong Kong

Posted on the 03 January 2021 by Michael David Oyco @MDoyco

What do you do (or plan to do) when you go to Hong Kong? Most people I know associate the country with shopping and food trip, well, that is the usual case most of the time especially for the people who already flies back and forth there. But if it is your first time going, there are some places and activities I suggest not missing.

Hong Kong Disney castle

1. Hong Kong Disneyland

Of course, first in the list is the "happiest place on earth". Whoever is with you, this place will always bring magic maybe just in different forms on how you'll see it. Enjoy the family-friendly rides, exciting roller-coasters, stunning and colorful parades, to even world-class shows that will brighten up not only your imaginations but as well as your reality. Besides, meeting your childhood heroes or icons you look up to growing up is always exciting, right? Who would not want that?!

Just make sure you are ready for long walks as the park is humongous and a lot of patience when the queue lines become quite a bit extensive.

I am actually amazed at how consistent they are when it comes to being present even in other countries. Visiting Disneyland Anaheim at Los Angeles, California, everything is carbon copied except for some specialty rides but the rest is the same. You will be going out of the park after with the same experience just like everybody else in the world.

One of the most convenient ways to maximize your Disneyland experience is by staying at one of its official hotels (especially if you have your tickets that last for more than a day). It is very much accessible as it has its own schedule of service going to the park and back. And since the theme park has its own train station, it is included in the service schedule making it a great choice for convenience.

P.S. I remember waking up here feeling ultra cold the first morning (lol)

Of course, you cannot miss this Disney train experience. Yes, they have their own train line which is the only way going to and going out of the theme park. It's just so cool once you see and ride it in person because it builds up the excitement that you are near the "happiest place on earth". #sunnybay #sunnybaystation

2. Ocean Park

If Disney is too basic for you, then try Ocean Park. This park is more inclined to the adrenaline junkies out there (like me!) who are very much into heights and are looking for some higher level of excitement.

Aside from hundreds of stairs and escalators to traverse (lol), you'll find here heart dropping rides and upside-down looping roller-coasters. But don't worry, there are also family-friendly attractions here like some water animal shows, gigantic aquariums, and one of their highlighted areas which they call the south pole where resident penguins are found.

Heights it is

If Disneyland has its own train station, then Ocean park has its own cable car line. You have to ride this because around 60% of the theme park is located on the other side of the land. And on that part is where all the actions happen, by actions I mean the extreme rides. And do note, that part of the land has an overlooking view of the South China Sea. You have to see that. And ride the roller-coaster beside the sea, it's crazy good!

3. Victoria Peak / Harbor

Ready for more heights? Hong Kong's landscape is a challenging one, they are steep, mountainous, and near the water which makes it unique. When you combine it with lights, technology, and skyscrapers, this is what makes it.

With this scenic view, the area became popular with tourists which led it to grow. Now, a mall is present. here (Victoria mall) where you can do a lot of entertainment too and enjoy its overlooking spectacle. We arrived here around late afternoon where we both enjoyed the light and the night versions. I suggest you come here at those times too.

Well, if you are not a heights person, more or likely you are a sea person. Victoria Harbor got you. The place will relax you with its spacious vicinity combined with the blowing wind and this peaceful sight. If you still want to dig more into this experience, make sure to ride the Star Ferry and indulge in all the relaxing vibe you can get. Well, we certainly did.

5. Buy a local milk tea

One of the unforgettable memories we had here was this, getting lost in the streets of Hong Kong. What happened? Haha! It's because milk tea was life then, well, it is still now. lol.

We were all thinking of doing something before going to sleep one night and suddenly, we thought of buying a milk tea somewhere to taste the local flavor. So, us cousins, got out of our hotel and searched for one. We were remembering signs along the way since we were kind of going too far from what we expected was the nearest milk tea shop from our hotel. Well, we managed to find one later on but the problem is on our way back, we got lost. It was both nerve-wracking and exciting, honestly. The good part here is that I was blessed enough and lived to tell you this. To more adventures like that! Haha!
The most unexpected parts of your trips are usually the best and the hard ones to forget, so, create more of those and live to tell them. (ano daw?! Haha!) Catch more of our pictures here on the video below.
