Today, Sunday, December 29th is indeed, not my birthday… however, this was the day we chose to celebrate it. We headed to the city, as in, San Francisco for the day, but soon learned how big of a mad house it can be on the weekend. Lesson learned: avoid the touristy areas of San Francisco on the weekend… and instead, look for more unusual locations and you’re bound to have a good time:
Example: Cafe ZoeTrope
This Cafe is owned by Francis Ford Coppola and his movie memorabilia is throughout this little diner off of Kearney Street in San Francisco. Serving up italian fare, and on Sundays, they even have a brunch offering that is served pretty late in the day. I mean, we went there around 2 in the afternoon, and we still got the offering. Pretty awesome if you ask me. And loved their Panna Cotta for dessert, not to mention, I have become obsessed with Panna Cotta, as of recent.
Then we continued driving around before catching sunset at the other side of the city before driving home:
Anyways, the days events wasn’t really what this post was about. It’s about the fact that I’m indeed 32. Yes. 32. Without Kids, but living the best life possible that I know how.
In all seriousness, have you ever thought about how birthdays change the older you get? When you’re a kid you look forward to that birthday party? When you’re a teenager, you can’t wait to get out to be with friends, and when you’re in college, a good excuse to break out the alcohol.
For me, now that I’m in my 30′s, it’s not about the gifts, but it’s about “experiences.” Even if I can’t be surrounded by loved ones each year I try to just get out of the house and do something, create a new memory and make something happen. Those memories are what have become precious to me more than anything.
It also means, if I feel like treating myself, this is the day to do it. Something I’ve been wanting? Damn right, it’s the right time to go out and treat myself. We only have one day to call our own, and that’s our birthdays. If we can’t treat ourselves then when can we?
So, day 1 of the 2 day celebration is coming to an end. Tomorrow, how will I treat myself? I will definitely be stopping off at an area winery to take in a tasting and may just treat myself to a bottle to bring home. It’s the small things in life, really.
And for all those celebrating New Year’s Eve the following night, just know it’s a continuation on to this awesome birthday party we have going on over here
