There’s nothing better than a family holiday. Different people like different kinds of holidays, but it’s always nice to have variety. It’s lovely to travel abroad and explore somewhere new, or to chill out in the countryside. But another good way to enjoy your holiday is to plan a city break.
You can explore a city in another country and experience different cultures and languages, but you don’t need to leave the UK in order to have a great time in the city. With that in mind, here are some tips to help you to plan your next city break.

Choose Your City

The first step is to pick which city you want to visit. The obvious answer in the UK is to head straight for the capital. London has something for everyone, from cultural monuments and museums to a fantastic shopping scene. You can also enjoy the London nightlife and try some of the most delicious food in the country.
However, London is not the only city in the UK. Cities large and small dotted throughout the UK all have something to offer. For example, in the North of England, you can visit the medieval city of York and see the sights. You can also leave England and visit Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff or Belfast, all while staying in the UK.

Find Accommodation

As with any holiday, your priority should be to find accommodation. When looking for accommodation in a city, you should balance a few different factors. First, you need to set a budget. This will inform every other aspect of your accommodation choice.
You also need to think about the quality of the accommodation and the location. While you might be able to walk through a city centre, cities are big places. Accommodation closer to the edge of the city will be cheaper, but unless you’re planning on driving or getting public transport into the center each day, it will be less convenient.
Ideally, you should find a good balance between convenience, cost, and quality. For example, if you’re planning to go to London, then look for hotels in Shepherd’s Bush as the location is close to the airport and popular tourist spots, giving you a prime location for your trip.

Plan Your Adventures

People often make one of two mistakes when planning a city break. They either plan too much or too little. When you over plan and stuff every minute of every day with a new activity or attraction, you don’t leave any room for flexibility, spontaneity, or to relax and take a break.
On the other hand, if you don’t plan at all and leave everything to the last minute, you might not get to reserve spots or buy tickets for certain attractions, meaning that you’ll miss out on some potentially amazing experiences.
Everyone has a different level of balance, but it’s a good idea to plan at least a few activities while giving yourself some breathing room to either come up with something new or slow down and soak in the city.
