How To Prepare For The Big Move And Make It Almost Stress Free!
Moving houses can be life-changing, but it can also be filled with stress: the preparations you have to do, changing addresses for everything, and making sure you don’t leave anything of value behind are just some of the things you have to think about. You’d want to make sure that your move to Johns Island, SC is done properly and efficiently without losing your wits.
If you want your move to go as smoothly as possible, you have to pay attention to the details. It may be time-consuming, but it will all be worth it once you settle in and feel right at home.
Just follow these steps to make your move simple, easy, and stress-free.
1. Decide on your moving date. It’s best to give yourself at least a couple of months to prepare for your big move. Call up and schedule a mover eight weeks before your moving date and remember to give them the exact address as well as the directions to your new place.  Two days before your move, confirm your schedule with the moving company.
2. Start packing the items you don’t use frequently, such as figurines and wall hangings, so that you won’t feel overwhelmed when your moving date nears.  This is also the time to decide which things you know you won’t use anymore, and put them in separate boxes for a garage sale or for donating to charity.  Use bubble wrap for fragile items such as plates, and use packing tape to seal each box. Remember to write labels on each box describing or listing down the contents, so it will be easier for the moving company to determine which boxes should be handled with extreme care.  The labels will also help you identify which boxes have to be unpacked first once you arrive in your new home.
 3. Fill out a change of address form for your bills and specify the date when you would like your mail and packages to start being delivered to your new home. Inform concerned parties, such as insurance companies, banks, and service providers of your new address.
4. Inform your doctor and dentist about your move and ask them for referrals to new medical professionals in Johns Island. You can also ask them for your medical and dental records.
5. Finalize your living and working arrangements. You can also plan the designation of the rooms in your new home.
6. Arrange for repairs, utilities, and installations in your new place so that it’s ready for you by the time you get there.
7. Make any travel arrangements and avail of car rental services that you may need.
8. Pack your valuables such as jewelry, credit cards, property deeds, insurance papers, passports, and other important documents in a separate envelope or bag, and keep these with you.
9. As much as possible, refrain from making new food purchases that you would have to keep in the fridge during the week of your move. It’s best to use up what’s there so that you can empty, defrost, and clean your fridge and prepare it for packing or for the new owner to use.
10. Take a last look. After all, it had been your home! Sentimental feelings aside, going through each room in the house lets you check if there are any items left behind.
As you can see, it’s not that difficult to prepare for the big move. Just make sure you have enough time for everything so you won’t have to do them all at once.
Have a stress-free move ahead!
