How To Put Together The Perfect Autumn Outfit?

Posted on the 10 November 2018 by Rachael Dunne @WhatRachDidNext

Is it just me or is autumn a bit of a nightmare season for knowing what to wear? Why is it so hard to find the perfect autumn outfit? Sure, it’s cold but we’re not quite in the thick of winter. There’s still the odd sunny day here and there but it’s by no means summer dress weather. Don’t you find on cold days, after setting out in warm clothes, the moment you go inside, you instantly bake? I don’t know about you but it’s about this time of year, I always end up having a bit of a wardrobe overhaul.

These are the items I chose for my perfect autumn outfit

The Autumnal Fashion Challenge

A few weeks ago, I was set a challenge by Fashionworld. The challenge was, to put together an outfit for under £100 from their new autumn fashion range. What perfect timing, they must have read my mind! Of course, I said I’d be delighted to take part.

With the aforementioned autumnal issues in mind, my plan was to put together an outfit involving layers. I wanted to put together an outfit that would keep me snuggly warm outside and still looking stylish inside. Fashionworld have so many options for different tastes, sizes, shapes and budgets, I was absolutely spoilt for choice! I eventually decided on a pair of cute jeans, white t-shirt and black cardigan.

My Autumn Outfit Choices

The cardigan I went for is knee length and has a big snuggly hood which is ideal for wearing instead of a coat on dry, sunny autumn days. The white t-shirt was actually a pack of two, one black and one white. Black and white t-shirts are invaluable for creating layered outfits in autumn as they go with just about anything. These ones are longer length with a dipped hem and seam down the back, which is super flattering. I opted for a size bigger as I find baggy layers easier to acclimatise in when moving from the cold outside to a warmer environment. The jeans have an eye-catching beaded stripe detail down the side. This has a slimming effect as it draws the eye downwards.

My Autumn Outfit Put To The Test

Last Saturday was a gorgeous sunny day so we decided to put my autumn outfit to the test on a trip to Bramhall. Bramhall Hall and the surrounding park is particularly beautiful this time of year. The hall is a beautiful black and white Tudor building which looks particularly picturesque when surrounded by the vibrant colours of autumn. The gorgeous, Tudor monochrome hall was the perfect backdrop for this outfit don’t you think?

Although it was a lovely sunny day, it was deceptively cold. My lovely long cardigan kept me nice and warm without overheating as we strolled around the grounds. We went for breakfast a little later in a nearby cafe. Bramhall is a nice area and somewhere I would never eat out without making an effort to look my best. Even once I’d removed my big funky cardigan I didn’t feel underdressed in my jeans and t-shirt.

You have my partner to thank for that awful joke. Excuse the hair, it was flippin’ windy!

All in all, I’m very pleased with my choices and happy that I can mix and match them with other pieces I already own. Although I’ve put this whole outfit together quite casually and teamed it with my trusty DMs, all the items are quite versatile. The jeans are nice enough to be dressed up with heels and a sassy top for going out in. The cardigan too could be worn on a night out with a cute dress and some show-stopping tights.

What’s your idea of the perfect autumn outfit? How are you acclimatising to ever-changing temperatures? Please get in touch, I’d love to hear your ideas!
