Dry and sensitive skin demands extra effort when it comes to skincare. There are a lot of reasons that could cause skin sensitivity, the common ones being allergies, existing skin conditions and harsh weather temperatures. For dry skin, harsh scrubbing, hot showers, and lack of natural skin oil are the known culprits.

If you have been struggling with dry and sensitive skin, it is time for you to understand the importance of a few simple yet helpful skincare tips. Here are four tips for properly taking care of dry and sensitive skin:

Moisturize

Moisturizing is the most essential part of skincare, whether you have dry and sensitive skin or the perfect skin type. Dermatologists always insist that even people with oily skin still need to moisturize, just that they will use lighter gel-based moisturizers. Dry skin requires cream-based moisturizers that are thick and rich in nutrients, like these Blue Lagoon treatments for skin conditions for example. Ensure the moisturizer does not have harsh ingredients (like alcohol) and has a high hydrating factor. For sensitive skin, avoid antiaging ingredients as they might irritate the skin and cause more damage.

Sunscreen

When your skin is dry and sensitive, it is already weak, and sun exposure might cause severe damages. Always go for sunscreen with a broad spectrum ranging between Sun Protection Factor(SPF) 15 to 30. Check your sunscreen for physical sunblocks like zinc oxide and titanium oxide, which are pretty gentle and effective on sensitive skin. Avoid direct sun exposure by seeking shades and always covering your skin with something light. Even with the use of sunscreen, limit the time you spend under the sun.

Use Lukewarm Water

Hot showers strip off the skin of essential oils and nutrients. Constant use of hot water to clean your skin leads to excessive dryness and sensitivity. Ensure your bath soap is also mild and skin-friendly. Steam cleaning is more preferable to hot water showers.

Avoid Harsh Exfoliants

Avoid washing your skin with rough clothes or using harsh scrubbers and exfoliants. This will only strip your skin of natural oils and healthy organisms. Clean your skin twice a day using mild cleansers. Only exfoliate once a week and ensure you moisturize with cream-based moisturizers to replace the natural oils.

Never exfoliate and leave the house, as this will only expose your sensitive skin to bacteria that could cause acne and irritation.

After observing the above skin care tips, consider utilizing readily available natural ingredients to make skin remedies. Using oils like coconut oil and shea butter can help reduce dryness and sensitivity on acne-prone skin. Aloe vera is also known for its natural hydrating and healing properties, making it a perfect home remedy for dry and sensitive skin.
