How to Take Care of Your Jewellery
Posted on the 28 January 2020 by Sparklesandstretchmarks @raine_fairyHow do you take care of your clothes? That answer is easy. You wash them and you dry them. You might even take particular pieces to be dry cleaned and pressed. What about your jewellery? It might not be a surprise to you that most people don’t take care of their jewellery, but you should! To be honest, you might not even know how, but that’s what you’re here for. If you’re looking for ways to keep your jewelry beautiful and bright, here are a few tips to try out.
Keep Your Jewellery Away From Water
Be mindful of your jewelry before you come anywhere near water. And we’re not talking just one type of water. If you’re swimming or going in a hot tub, chlorine and salt water can damage your jewelry. Plus, chlorine can also discolor metals and erode gemstones. Another thing to be mindful of is hopping into water with your rings on. Cold water can cause your fingers to shrink and before you know it, your ring has sunk to the bottom of the pool or ocean.
Find the Right Way to Clean Them
You’d be crazy to think that your jewelry doesn’t need to be cleaned. It 100% does. One big aspect of “dirty jewellery” is tarnish. From time to time, it’s important to clean your jewellery to bring back its luster. However, all jewelry wasn’t created equal. There are multiple professional and homemade remedies that you can use to clean your jewelry.
Put It On After You Get Dressed and Before You Get Undressed
There are a few reasons for this tip. One, it’s easier than you think for your jewelry to get caught on your clothes. If you’re wearing a particular dainty piece, you can easily break the chain while trying to undo it from your apparel. Two, think of all the steps you do when it comes to getting dressed and undressed. With applying lotions and perfumes, you can easily put your jewelry in contact with something that could lead it to tarnish in the future.
Don’t Leave Them in the Sun
When it comes to jewellery, think of it like your phone. Your phone shouldn’t be left in direct sunlight and neither should your jewelry. Direct sunlight can lead to discoloration and dullness of your jewelry while extreme heat can even distort the color of some gemstones. If you’re going to be out in the sun for a long time, be mindful of what jewelry you’re putting on.
Rotate Them
Nothing is meant to last forever, so it’s important that you don’t overuse your jewelry. While you might have favorite pieces, it’s important to rotate them with other jewelry in your arsenal. This will allow them to stay bright and in good shape for a long time.
Jewellery is an investment, and it’s important that you take care of it. From your everyday pieces to special occasions, you’ll often find that many of your favorites don’t look as they did when you first purchased them. That’s not a problem! With these tips, you can now take daily steps to ensure that your pieces look as bright and beautiful as they were initially.
