Dear NHL…
I was worried at first, when the threat was in the air. I wondered what I was going to do with my nights and the extra exuberance that I used to expel while watching my team play.
I was worried that I would miss you more.
That I wouldn’t quite know how to spend those long nights without a game, or the yelling or the way you would take over my schedule.
But you know what?
I don’t really miss you that much.
I don’t miss the disappointment of losing games in a row, or finding out who the new guys are, or what is happening to the old guys that used to carry the team, and somehow just can’t pull that off anymore while making 6 million dollars a year.
I really thought I would.
I don’t actually miss everyone on Facebook updating the score every four minutes. Filling my news-feed with information I already knew anyways, because ya…I am watching it too.
I am pretty sure that I won’t have to choose between you and American Idol in January, it was always a dilemma, not that you would win anyway this year. Keith is on it, and he is far more entertaining to me at this point in time.
I just really hope that you guys know what you are doing…
Because not missing you so much this year, is making me question whether or not I want to even bother if you do come back again. It just seems like there isn’t any point to the whole thing now.
During the last lockout in 2004-05…I didn’t really watch, well not faithfully like I have since then, so this is kind of a new thing. It’s nearly like having an old friend, just walk away, without a care about how you feel.
Now I have been there done that, and you know, I lived through it, coming out better for it in the end.
So maybe a break is just what we need. Maybe everyone should just go back to their corners and think about what is going on here. I mean golfing in the winter isn’t out of the question right? And I am pretty sure the boys will make it through the winter with no huge paychecks, if I can do it, so can they…
And maybe the bosses of it all, should give their heads a little bit of a shake too. You are not the be all end all, even if you think you are. I am pretty sure, you already know how the majority of people feel about you and your shenanigans, so I won’t go there.
And to all the other die hard fans out there, we can do this. We can make it through the winter without our favorite sport, without the yelling and the comradery of wanting our team to win it all. Oh yes we can.
Because we will more than likely remain hockey fans, with or without the game.
But for this year we just aren’t going to miss you that much…
