I can mark another task off my life list! I joined a sorority! I'm proud to be an Alpha Gam girl! I only wish I had rushed my freshman year. I met so many awesome girls and have so many new opportunities in front of me that I never imagined.
On the first day of recruitment, the ice water tea, I met my pi chi group. A pi chi is a sorority member who disaffiliates herself from her sorority for the whole summer so that she can help the potential new members through recruitment. She answers any questions we have and really does make the process less intimidating. I loved my pi chi, and probably would have quit if it wasn't for her.
The second party was philanthropy. Since there are 5 sororities on our campus, the maximum number of houses that you can visit today is 4. You can only visit the sororities that extend an invitation to you. This is part of the mutual selection process. During this party, we made crafts that were given to the sororities philanthropies.
The third party is sisterhood. The maximum number of houses for this day is 3. The houses that you visit perform a skit that shows the sororities' values and sisterhood.
The 4th party is preference night. This night, the maximum number of houses is 2. During the party, the members tell about their experience in their sorority. At the end of the night, the potential new members decide which of these houses they like better. For many girls, this is a tough decision.
The last day is bid day. This is when you get an invitation to join a sorority. In my pi chi group, 3 girls quit, 2 girls pledged Chi Omega, 1 girl pledged Kappa Delta, and my pi chi was a Chi Omega. Alpha Omicron Pi and Phi Mu are also on my campus, but none of my pi chi group got bids from them. I was so sad that so many girls quit. I really hope that they decide to join a sorority in the spring! After spending a week with them, I would love to have them as sisters!
The day after bid day we were officially "pledged in" and we got our big sisters! I'm looking forward to learning so much and the gifts i'll get from my big!
I've only been an Alpha Gam for a few days, so I haven't done much with them yet. I do already know that I love my sisters, though!
