I'm Thirstier Than a Camel!

I have sleeping routines. I think my puppy dog does too. I actually think most everyone does. Anyway I know my roommate does. He always has his booty call over Sunday night. I don't know what it is about her voice, but it carries really well through our vents. No no no, get your minds out of the gutter. The only thing I have EVER heard is them talking. They are in this giggly phase. Well actually they were in this giggly phase when they were dating like 8 months ago. Then it wore off. Then they broke up. Then they decided to just "hook up and hang out" then they went back to this ultimate giggly phase.
So Sunday nights I am always knowing that I have t have ear plugs in to get a good nights sleep.
Then there is Shia, my sweet baby puppy. She has these nights, usually about once a week. This happened last night. She starts pacing around the bed, about 2 hours before our alarms go off. She paces and paces, until I wake up. I try and pet her, and make her calm down and try to get her back to sleep. (She seriously is as much work as a baby) Then she stands on the end of our bed. She always does this. She perches there, because she is too tired to jump down.  I have to get out of the bed, and lift my 70 pound dog to the floor. She goes and drinks her whole entire water bowl, and then I take her outside, and she pees. Then we both curl back up in bed. It's so funny, because Shia makes it seem like it was a life or death situation. She will die if she does not have half a bowl of water right that second.
My question is with sleeping disturbances - that are somewhat out of my control - I think I need to learn to meditate. I used to meditate in the mornings, and I loved it. What do you do to ensure a good nights rest?
Also, does your animal ever do this "MOM WAKE UP RIGHT NOW!!" routine?
