The StumbleUpon logo… which I also don’t understand…
The Reddit logo… which I don’t understand at all…
Either you think I can’t spell, or you know exactly what I am going to talk about. StumbleUpon and Reddit are quickly opening the door for a new idea called “Social Bookmarking” where people decide what is important on the internet, and other people vote to make it more popular. With the huge amount of information out there, it is pretty hard to decide what is cool, and since Facebook and Twitter are less about posting links and more about telling the world how you feel about the weather, politics, or the fact that you just got dumped, there really is no place to broadcast popular websites and have them prosper these days.
So, now there are these great websites that tell you what is important and what is trending all around the web instead of just on Twitter and Facebook. If a new blog starts taking off and going viral, the chances you will hear about it on Facebook are slim, but if you check StumbleUpon there is a chance you might actually hear about it. I will admit, I knew nothing about these things until a few weeks ago. I had heard of them, but I had no reason to go on them. For all I knew the only important things in the world could be found on Twitter, and I was happy believing that. When I found StumbleUpon and Reddit I was like I had been stuck in a cave for 15 years and just discovered the world for the first time. It was like an internet spiritual awakening if you will.
This really is a huge deal, because now I don’t have to put up wandering around the internet looking for entertainment, I can have the internet bring it to me. It is really easy and if you are smart about checking the right boxes on the interests form you can end up with pictures like this amazing Lamborghini that gave me a car boner. If you are looking for a good laugh and want to find out what kinds of stupid things people are talking about you may find yourself checking Reddit, where any story can be popular if it is hilarious, stupid, amazing, or just plain crazy. To make it big on some of these sites all you have to do is have mass appeal and give the internet something it didn’t already have. Thankfully, unlike Facebook and Twitter, you can intentionally avoid the average, ordinary things your friends say, and find something genuinely interesting out there to read and not have to listen to people talk about how they feel all the time. I have not completely jumped ship, because I know there is a bounty to be had on Facebook and Twitter for a blogger like me, but for the time being it is just not my jazz for personal use…
If you are wondering, yes, I do post my pages to StumbleUpon now, and I have plans to make it big on Reddit some day, and with any luck I will be using them to bring in even more viewers and more people to buy my t shirts which, in case you looked, I had to start over since they literally sold out in the first day! Apparently the fans liked the shirts, so there is a new campaign, same address, still running, so buy more shirts people! We did great!
Oh yeah, and while you are at it, you should comment, like, follow, subscribe, and come back next time to hear more! Oh and if you find us on StumbleUpon make sure you give us some likes!
