I Wanna Know... {Week 15}

I wrote a post a few months back.

I basically opened the floor and gave you guys a chance to ask me ANYTHING.
When I say anything, I mean anything! Blogging, marriage, army, crafting, shopping...

I'd love for you to submit a question for me to answer & for you to be featured next week!!!

Here we go with Week #15! I always try to include both blogging & personal questions.

I Wanna Know... {Week 15}

Dana

Question #1: What did you go to school for? What was your corporate job?

I knew I had to answer this question the second it came through. I actually had a double major in college. I got a degree in Fashion Design & Fashion Merchandising. When I graduated, the economy was in a bad place and no one was getting jobs. So I creatively marketed myself...

And got a job for a major defense contractor. Yep, I went from buying crop tops and leggings to buying missile parts and climbing on planes. I started as buyer and then worked really hard to go through their leadership program. After that I landed a job as an engineer. Everyone always thinks that is so crazy. I just think that it proves that it really doesn't matter WHAT your degree is in, you can market yourself and get a job doing just about anything (:

Question #2: What are your thoughts in terms of Blogging Conferences? Are they beneficial for everyone?

Hey Chelsee! I am sure many bloggers had questions about this following all of the Blissdom drama that went down a few weeks back. I am a strong believer that situations are controlled by what you make of them. Had I been at Blissdom, I would have tried to connect with bloggers I love and just ignored all the crazy drama so that it didn't ruin my personal experience.

That being said, I have never been to an organized blog conference. Some of them carry a pretty hefty price tag for admission alone, and then you have to add in travel and hotels, etc. I think if there was a great conference that I thought I could learn a lot from, I would definitely take the opportunity!! I have talked to some bloggers about planning our own conference...somewhere smack dab in the middle of the country so as many girls could come as possible. It would be like one massive blate!!! We could share our thoughts and ideas together, sip wine, goof around and have a huge sleepover....Anyone interested?!?!?

Question #3: How do you deal with the competition that comes with being a military wife?

Hello Heather! So I haven't really had to deal with much "competition" per say, but I have had to deal with a lot of negativity surrounding the rank structure. If you aren't in the military, you will not understand this. I have thought about writing a whole post on this topic and I still want to, I just have to word it very carefully because it is a very touchy subject.

Ryan is an officer in the Army - but Ryan started off as enlisted. He has been on both sides so he has a very good perspective when it comes to dealing with a lot of different situations. When I first started blogging I would stumble across a lot of enlisted wives' blogs who would be tearing officer's wives apart. And then I would see the same in reverse. It used to make me so upset and I would cry to Ryan because I didn't understand why the "two sides" can be so mean to each other. I was raised in a family that taught us that everyone is valuable, you treat everyone with respect...so I had never really seen a community segregate like the military can sometimes do. After months of being married and adapting to the military life I can proudly say that I don't participate in the negativity I saw early on. I have best friends who are enlisted wives, right along with the officer's wives. I don't judge people based on rank, but instead get to know them for who they are, just like I hope they do for me. If you aren't involved with the military, this question will probably sound absurd or you will be confused...If you are a military wife, then I am sure you have seen some of this at some point. More to come on this later if I ever muster up the courage to post on it.

Question #4: If you could keep only 3 of your kitchen essentials, what would they be?

Hey Girl! This would be REALLY hard. I love cooking and so I love all my gadgets and items that make my life easier. These top three things are items that I think are the bomb aka you all should invest in them and you will be so happy you did!!!

#1 Good Knives: You may think your $10 knife set from Walmart does the job, but I promise you, get at least 1-2 high quality knives and you will be so thankful! I have two Rachel Ray knives that I use for chopping. They slide through vegetables like they are butter. I could not believe I lived with them before I purchased them.

#2 Immersion Blender: I honestly bought this because I thought it looked cool. It is incredible. You can make smoothies, shakes, hummus...basically anything you could with a food processor or blender! The best part is it is handheld so it is small. You can use it with a mason jar or a bowl. I love that I don't have to drag out my huge food processor or blender every time I need to chop, puree, or blend something! And you can find them for under $20!

#3 Fabulous Toaster Oven: Ok I know this is rather large...but it is one of the best things I have ever bought. I have one that can fit a 9x9 pan in it or a 6 muffin tin or a rectangular glass pan. Do you know what this means? It means I don't have to turn on the big oven all the time to bake! Yes, I still use the big one for pizza, but most things (especially when you are cooking for two) fit in the toaster oven. I love it because it saves so much electricity, doesn't overheat the house and also cuts down on appliances! It also makes the best toast (:

I hope you guys enjoyed seeing some of your questions answered! I'll be back next Tuesday with more!
