I can't be the only person who finds it tricky to come up with new ideas to treat my own Dad as well as my kids Dad, right?! I've spent too many years just repeating the same tired old gifts over and over again, and honestly...I'm so bored of buying socks and beer so I can only imagine how bored the recipients are!
This year I wanted to try to think outside the box a bit more, and find some gifts that are a bit more unusual...here's what I've come up with so far.
Jon has really been getting in to home workouts lately, as the weather has improved and our outdoor space can be a nice break from the chaos inside of the house - so I thought that some work out equipment would be a nice idea, but something easily transportable that he can use indoors or outdoors depending on the weather.
I found this ab roller home work out set which ticks all of the boxes and offers great value for money too - I think he'll be really pleased with it!
For something that focuses more on the mind than the body, I loved the idea of a scented candle - I know that he really enjoys them as we use them around the house most days, and he often gifts them to me for Mothers Day or birthdays. But most of the colours and scents that I found in stores seemed to be aimed at women - so I did a bit of searching online and found the most beautiful masculine scented range from The Copenhagen Company and their Essence of Time collection.
The candle is beautifully presented and stylish to look at whilst still looking masculine, and the scent is lovely too - musky without being overpowering.
I hope that Jon will use it for the mindful moments of meditation on his new health kick.
And moving on to my own Dad, I know he always appreciates a nice bottle of something but I tend to always stick with scotch whisky as it's always been his favorite. However I noticed him drinking Sherry recently, so I decided to surprise him with something a bit different this year - I went for a bottle of Croft Sherry.
I know that sherry can traditionally be seen as a winter drink, but Croft have recently collaborated with Sandro Farmhouse of GBBO fame and he created a delicious sounding Summer Spritzer using Croft Sherry which I think my Dad will really enjoy!
Sandro’s Croft Summer Spritzer
Prep Time: 5 Minutes | Makes: 4 Spitzers (1 pitcher)
Ingredients:
- 1 orange
- 1 lemon
- 200ml of Croft Original
- 2 tbsp of pineapple syrup
- 300ml sparkling wine
- 100ml soda water
- Large ice cubes
- Several sprigs of fresh mint
For the candied peel garnish:
- Orange peel
- 1 tbsp of sugar
Method:
1. Start by making the ‘candied peel’ to decorate the glass. Cut the orange into wedges and remove the peel. Thinly slice the peel and place in a small bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and mix well. Put to one side.
2. Cut the lemons in to wedges.
3. Add the citrus wedges to a cocktail shaker and press against the sides of the shaker to release the juices.
4. Add the Croft Original, ice and pineapple syrup to the shaker and shake, shake, shake.
5. Pour the infused Croft Original into a glass with ice and top it with the sparkling wine.
6. Garnish with the candied orange peel and a sprig of fresh mint.
I hope you find this guide helpful for your Fathers Day shopping.
