Today's image of the day comes from a recent wedding I photographed in Moreton, Dorset, where the reception was held in a marquee in the grounds of the family house.This image really shows the power of documentary wedding photography, for it captures a special, tender moment between the bride and her father, which only lasted for seconds but will now be remembered forever.
Wedding speeches are often emotional times, and as such, we wedding photographers need to keep a careful eye out to observe the moments that may be happening through the room. Of course, the special relationships such as bride and father are ones which I would always keep a close eye on, as these are the type of moments that tell a really powerful story about the love that abounds through the family. But, I'll also be keeping a watchful eye out for other emotional moments during the speeches away from the top table. By this time on a wedding day, I've had the opportunity to observe most of the guests in a candid and discreet manner, so there may well be some individuals who I've already seen might well be those who will be likely to be more emotive during the speeches.
Having said that, any person during the speeches might create a wonderful moment that I want to photograph - so it's important that I keep all my wits about me at this time of a wedding day! Whether it's happy tears, uproarious laughter, or just a fabulous facial expression in response to something mentioned in the speeches... all these moments build together to create a truly memorable set of images for the bride and groom to look back on and remember this very important part of their wedding day.
