As children, we've all been there. At a function where it's all 'grown ups' and not much for us to do.... it can be boring, right? Of course, children nowadays can take their entertainment everywhere they go, on their mobile phones and tablets. You just need to hope that your battery life lasts longer than the event you're at!

Luckily for this little chap at this wedding reception at the Bishops Palace in Wells, Somerset, he managed to find a seat next to a handy plug socket.... well, nearly next to it, as you can see!

At this particular wedding, there were only a couple of children in attendance, who were immediate family. However, if you are planning a wedding where there are a larger amount of children invited, then it's certainly a good idea to consider arranging some kind of entertainment for them in order to keep them occupied for what inevitably is a long day for them. I've been to many weddings in my line of work and seen many different ideas to keep the children happy - from colouring pens and pads on the wedding breakfast tables, to separate 'play rooms' with toys and games and creches for the smaller children. But, one of the smartest ideas I've ever seen was to arrange a room with children's films on DVD playing - and for the children to be taken down there straight after eating their wedding breakfast, so that they didn't get bored during the speeches!

I absolutely love photographing children at weddings, but as a parent myself, I know how difficult it can be to juggle having a good time at a wedding with looking after your small ones. So a little planning and preparation in advance can make sure that everyone enjoys the celebrations all day and evening long.... no matter how big or small they are!
