Image of the Day: Tenderness

Posted on the 23 November 2017 by Belinda Mccarthy @b_mccarthyphoto

I absolutely love this particular image, photographed at a recent wedding ceremony at Wells Cathedral in Somerset, for a very special reason. Take a look at this moment, which records the signing of the register, near the end of the wedding ceremony. You'll see a particular fondness between the gentleman officiating and the bride;- and that's because the gentleman is actually the bride's father.

What a special thing for your father to be the one who officiates over your marriage - and the bond between father and daughter is utterly evident in this image. It was especially important for me to capture this moment, as I was not actually allowed to be in the Quire Chapel at Wells Cathedral during the ceremony itself. If you're familiar with the cathedral, you'll know that the Quire sits inside the main building, a 'church within a church', if you will, and so you can walk all the way around the outside of it whilst inside the cathedral and peer in through the doorways and window apertures. So that's how I photographed this absolutely wonderful wedding ceremony for the main part... and this was the only moment during the truly moving ceremony that I was permitted to step forward to photograph proceedings. I'm so glad that this lovely moment happened and that I was there to document it.

What a honour to photograph any ceremony at the epic Wells Cathedral, in such majestic surroundings! I can't wait to be engaged to photograph another beautiful wedding ceremony there soon.
