In a few breaths’ time, I will mail off the last remnant of my L.A. vacation. Seven years ago I lived in L.A but I knew nothing about the city apart from the indulgence. I was in my early 20s and my thoughts raced, disconnected and anxious. My recent trip there was, however, calm and exquisite. To meet with former bosses, lollygag with past coworkers, eat with grad school pals, walk Cassie’s papillon every morning—-filled me with empirical happiness.
